Abstract
Community health workers (CHWs) play a crucial role in maternal health initiatives across urban Tanzania. The study employed quantitative surveys among CHWs, community leaders, and mothers-to-be, supplemented by focus group discussions. CHWs were found to significantly reduce maternal deaths by 20% in urban settings, with a notable increase in uptake of prenatal care from 35% to 60%. Community health workers are pivotal in improving maternal health outcomes and reducing mortality rates. Further training programmes should be developed to enhance CHW effectiveness while advocating for sustained community support.
