Abstract

Traditional medicine has a long-standing presence in Egypt's healthcare landscape, alongside modern medical systems. An action research approach was employed, involving interviews with healthcare providers, surveys of patients, and observation of traditional healing practices in community settings. Traditional healers reported handling approximately 30% of all consultations related to minor ailments but faced challenges such as limited insurance coverage for their services. Despite facing barriers, traditional medicine remains a significant part of Egypt’s healthcare ecosystem and could benefit from increased recognition and integration. The government should consider integrating traditional medicine into the national health insurance system to improve accessibility and ensure equitable care distribution.
