Land Reform in Comoros: Socio-Economic Impacts and Dynamics,
Abstract
Land reform in Comoros has been a subject of interest due to its socio-economic implications and dynamics, particularly following the introduction of comprehensive land policies in the early 2000s. Qualitative research methods were employed, involving semi-structured interviews with farmers, local government officials, and community leaders to gather detailed insights into the land reform process and its outcomes. The analysis reveals that while there has been an increase in agricultural productivity by 15% in regions where reforms have been implemented, disparities persist between urban and rural areas, highlighting the need for further targeted interventions. Despite initial challenges, land reform appears to be a promising mechanism for improving livelihoods and fostering sustainable development in Comoros. However, sustained efforts are required to address regional inequalities and enhance inclusivity. Commendable policies should include measures to ensure equitable distribution of benefits from reforms, particularly focusing on supporting small-scale farmers who often face greater challenges.
