Abstract

The Sahel region of Africa is facing significant climate challenges that threaten human security in terms of food insecurity, water scarcity, and health crises. The analysis will draw upon existing literature and case studies from the Sahel region, emphasising qualitative insights into local coping mechanisms and policy responses to climate-induced vulnerabilities. Cape Verde has experienced a notable increase (20-30%) in desertification rates over the past decade, exacerbating food scarcity issues for its rural population. Despite limited resources, Cape Verdean communities have demonstrated resilience through innovative agricultural practices and community-based initiatives aimed at adapting to climate change impacts. Policy recommendations include bolstering international support for climate adaptation projects in the Sahel region and promoting cross-border cooperation among affected countries.
