Pregnant Women's Post-Caesarean Section Healthcare Utilization Patterns in South African Hospitals: An Analytical Commentary

Abstract

Pregnant women who undergo cesarean section (C-section) in South African hospitals often require additional healthcare services post-surgery. A mixed-methods approach was employed, including a structured questionnaire survey and in-depth interviews to gather insights into service utilization and patient satisfaction. The findings suggest that while many women adhere to recommended health check-ups, there are notable inconsistencies and areas for improvement in their overall healthcare utilization following C-section delivery. Public health policies should be revised to ensure more consistent application of guidelines on post-Cesarean care, particularly regarding follow-up appointments and patient education.
