Abstract

Community gardening initiatives have gained traction in addressing food security issues among rural populations globally, with Senegalese women playing a pivotal role in these efforts. A comprehensive literature review will be conducted, synthesizing existing research on community gardens in Africa, focusing specifically on their application within Senegal's agricultural context. Secondary data analysis of government reports and academic journals will complement qualitative insights from interviews with participants. The theoretical framework provides insights into the facilitators and barriers to community gardening for food security, offering a basis for future research and policy interventions tailored to Senegalese rural communities. Policy makers should prioritise support structures such as training programmes and infrastructure development to enhance the sustainability of community gardening initiatives among women in rural areas. Funding mechanisms need to be designed with gender-specific considerations.
