Comparative Creation Myths in Gabonese African Cultures
Abstract
Creation myths play a significant role in Gabonese African cultures, reflecting deep spiritual beliefs and cosmological understandings. Fieldwork was conducted through participant observation, semi-structured interviews with cultural elders, and archival research. Data analysis involved thematic coding to identify recurring themes and variations. A consistent theme across creation myths is the role of water in bringing forth life, evident in both oral traditions and contemporary ceremonies. Gabonese cultures share a common reverence for water, suggesting an underlying spiritual connection that transcends linguistic and cultural boundaries. Further research should explore how contemporary environmental challenges are reflected or influenced by these creation myths. Gabon, Ethnography, Creation Myths, Cultural Diversity
