Abstract

Historical Foundations of Governance Challenges in Malawi examines the long-term impacts of colonial governance on contemporary African political structures. This comparative analysis employs archival research and secondary data from academic journals and government documents to trace the evolution of governance structures in Malawi since colonial times. A significant theme emerging from the historical examination is the lasting influence of colonial administrative divisions, which continue to impact electoral outcomes and resource distribution today. The analysis reveals how colonial-era decisions have created persistent disparities that affect political stability and economic development in contemporary Malawi. Future research should explore potential solutions for integrating historical governance structures into modern democratic frameworks to mitigate current challenges.
