Vaccination Strategies and Community Engagement in Polio Eradication Efforts within the Sahel Region of West Africa: An Immunization Dynamics Analysis
Abstract
Polio eradication efforts in the Sahel region of West Africa have faced challenges due to low vaccination coverage and community skepticism. A mixed-methods approach combining quantitative survey data from healthcare records with qualitative interviews in Nigeria’s Sahel region. Survey revealed a significant improvement in vaccination coverage from 50% to over 80%, attributed primarily to improved communication strategies and local leadership involvement. Community participation is crucial for sustained polio eradication efforts, highlighting the importance of tailored engagement approaches. Implement community-based vaccination programmes with regular feedback loops to ensure ongoing support from stakeholders.
