The Islamic Scholarly Tradition in Senegalese Historiography: A Theoretical Framework
Abstract
The Islamic scholarly tradition in Senegalese historiography is a rich tapestry of intellectual contributions that significantly shaped the cultural and religious landscape of West Africa. This tradition encompasses various aspects including religious texts, legal codes, philosophical discussions, and educational systems. The analysis will draw upon existing academic literature, including historical texts, legal documents, and philosophical treatises from the Islamic scholarly tradition. A qualitative approach will be employed to interpret these sources within their cultural context. This theoretical framework lays a foundation for understanding the role of Islamic scholarship in shaping Senegalese history and culture. It highlights the importance of interdisciplinary collaboration between historians, sociologists, and religious scholars to fully appreciate these contributions. Future research should consider integrating quantitative data alongside qualitative analysis to provide a more comprehensive picture of the scholarly tradition. Additionally, comparative studies with other West African contexts could offer valuable insights into regional variations in Islamic scholarship.
