Abstract
Visual culture in South Africa has evolved significantly since the end of apartheid with a particular focus on youth identity formation. Theoretical synthesis and critical analysis of existing literature on visual culture, youth studies, and cultural identity in post-apartheid South Africa. This theoretical framework provides a nuanced understanding of how visual culture intersects with identity formation among South African youth, offering insights for future research and policy development. Further empirical studies should validate these theoretical propositions by collecting data from diverse youth populations across different regions in post-apartheid South Africa.
