Abstract

In Nigeria, Yoruba and Igbo communities have engaged in intercultural performance art exchange initiatives aimed at fostering social cohesion and peace. The study employs qualitative research methods to analyse documented performance art events and community engagement reports from both Yoruba and Igbo regions. A thematic analysis of the data revealed that these exchanges often focused on traditional storytelling, music, and dance, with a notable theme of promoting mutual understanding and respect between communities. These intercultural performance art initiatives have contributed to building bridges between Yoruba and Igbo communities by fostering dialogue and reducing tensions through shared cultural expressions. Policy makers should encourage more such cross-cultural exchanges as a proactive tool for promoting social cohesion and peace in Nigeria.
