Abstract

Rural areas in Tanzania often lack access to comprehensive dental healthcare services, leading to poor dental health among children. This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of community-led oral hygiene initiatives. A mixed-method approach, including pre-and post-intervention surveys and clinical assessments, was employed. Data collection occurred across four villages in Tanzania. Initial findings suggest an improvement in tooth decay incidence by 30% among participants compared to controls (p < 0.05). Themes included increased fluoride awareness and improved oral hygiene practices. The intervention appears effective, with notable improvements in dental health status. Further research should explore long-term sustainability of these programmes and their scalability across Tanzania. Treatment effect was estimated with $\text{logit}(p_i)=\beta_0+\beta^\top X_i$, and uncertainty reported using confidence-interval based inference.
