Community-Based Beekeeping Programmes in Northern Somali Rural Areas: Economic Sustainability and Environmental Impact Studies in Tanzania
Abstract
Community-based beekeeping programmes have been implemented in various rural areas to enhance honey production and contribute to local economies. A mixed-methods approach combining quantitative surveys (n=120) and qualitative interviews (n=15) was employed to assess programme effectiveness across different regions. The analysis revealed a significant increase in honey production by 30% compared to baseline levels, attributed to improved beekeeping practices and community engagement strategies. Community-based beekeeping programmes demonstrated strong economic benefits for local communities while maintaining environmental integrity through sustainable management practices. Further research should focus on scaling up successful models and exploring additional value-added products from honey production.
