Abstract
Urban waste management in Abidjan, Côte d'Ivoire has faced challenges with low recycling participation rates despite government efforts to improve collection efficiency. A structured survey was conducted among households in Abidjan, collecting data on socio-economic status, awareness about waste collection services, and willingness to recycle. Data analysis used descriptive statistics and chi-square tests for correlation studies. Recycling participation varied significantly by income level, with higher rates observed among lower-income households who were better informed about the recycling programme. The project's success in increasing collection efficiency did not necessarily translate to increased recycling participation due to socio-economic disparities. Future waste management initiatives should focus on targeted education campaigns for low-income communities to enhance recycling rates and overall sustainability.
