Abstract

This study examines the role of universities in knowledge production and dissemination within Niger's academic landscape. A comparative analysis was conducted by reviewing university curricula, research outputs, and community engagement projects related to African vernacular architecture in Niger. Findings indicate that while universities offer specialized courses in vernacular architecture, there is a notable gap in practical application and community collaboration. The findings suggest that increased interdisciplinary approaches and more collaborative efforts between universities and local communities could enhance the impact of knowledge dissemination. Recommendations include fostering partnerships with local artisans and practitioners to integrate theoretical knowledge into practical applications, and promoting cross-institutional research collaborations in this field.
