Abstract

Land tenure systems in Mozambique are characterized by a mix of customary and formal land rights, which can influence agricultural investment. A systematic search strategy was employed to identify relevant studies on the impact of land tenure systems on agricultural investments in Mozambique. The analysis revealed that customary tenure systems often result in lower investment levels compared to formal rights, with a proportion of approximately 40% showing reduced funding for agricultural activities under customary tenure. Customary tenure systems pose significant barriers to agricultural investment in Mozambique, necessitating policy interventions to facilitate more equitable land access and utilization. Policy makers should consider implementing mechanisms that enhance the security of formal land rights to stimulate greater agricultural investments. The empirical specification follows $Y=\beta_0+\beta^\top X+\varepsilon$, and inference is reported with uncertainty-aware statistical criteria.
