Abstract

Sustainability governance in Ghanaian business practices has gained increasing attention due to the country's commitment to achieving sustainable development goals (SDGs). The need for effective policies and frameworks that align with global sustainability standards is evident, particularly given Ghana’s economic growth and environmental challenges. The study employs a combination of qualitative and quantitative research methods, including literature reviews, stakeholder consultations, and case studies across various sectors to identify governance gaps and potential solutions. Findings indicate that while there are existing policies in place, their implementation is inconsistent, leading to uneven progress towards sustainable development goals. Specific challenges include inadequate enforcement mechanisms and a lack of cross-sector collaboration. The analysis concludes with the identification of key areas where governance improvements can be made, emphasising the need for stronger regulatory frameworks and enhanced stakeholder engagement to achieve more equitable and sustainable business practices in Ghana. Recommendations include strengthening existing policies through clearer enforcement mechanisms, fostering cross-sector collaboration, and establishing a dedicated agency focused on sustainability governance. Additionally, promoting public-private partnerships and educating stakeholders on sustainable development principles are suggested.
