Abstract

Suburban schools in Dakar, Senegal have implemented gender gap reduction programmes to address disparities in educational access and outcomes between boys and girls. Qualitative data were collected through interviews with educators, parents, and students, supplemented by a review of school records and programme documents. Female students showed an increased enrollment rate (15%) and better academic performance in mathematics (average score improved from 60% to 75%) following the implementation of gender gap reduction programmes. Despite initial challenges, the programmes have led to significant improvements in educational access and outcomes for female students in suburban schools of Dakar. To further enhance programme effectiveness, ongoing support from both government and non-governmental organizations (NGOs) is recommended. gender gap reduction, educational access, suburban schools, Dakar, Senegal
