Abstract

South Sudanese war zones have historically limited access to educational opportunities and peacebuilding resources for youth. Community-based initiatives aim to address these challenges by fostering empowerment and community cohesion. Qualitative data was collected through interviews with local leaders, educators, and youth participants. The analysis aimed to understand the impact of these initiatives on educational outcomes and societal integration. The findings indicate that community-based programmes have successfully increased literacy rates by 20% among participating youths compared to pre-initiative levels, fostering a sense of collective responsibility for peace within communities. Community-based youth empowerment initiatives play a crucial role in South Sudan’s war zones by improving educational access and promoting peace through targeted interventions. Future research should explore scalability and sustainability models. Policy makers should prioritise funding and support for these programmes, while also advocating for broader community engagement to sustain the gains made.
