Abstract

The informal economy in Côte d'Ivoire plays a significant role in the country's GDP calculations, yet its contributions are often underestimated due to data limitations and methodological challenges. The review synthesizes various empirical studies that employ diverse methods such as surveys, case studies, and statistical modelling to estimate the informal sector's economic impact. Recent research suggests that the informal economy contributes approximately 25% of Côte d'Ivoire’s GDP, with significant variations across different sectors and regions. While there is growing recognition of the informal economy's importance, methodological inconsistencies hinder a more comprehensive understanding of its role in the national economy. Future research should focus on harmonizing data collection methods to improve comparability and accuracy, particularly in rural areas where coverage tends to be less robust.
