Abstract

Lagos, Nigeria's commercial hub, hosts a vibrant but often overlooked informal sector characterized by entrepreneurship. This study utilised qualitative research methods including semi-structured interviews with 30 entrepreneurs from various sectors of the informal economy. The data collection period spanned three months. Entrepreneurs reported significant growth opportunities but also encountered systemic barriers such as inadequate infrastructure and regulatory challenges, particularly in accessing finance and legal support. Despite these challenges, entrepreneurs demonstrated resilience and innovative strategies to navigate the environment successfully. Government policies should prioritise enhancing access to financial services and simplifying bureaucratic processes for informal sector entities.
