Abstract

Sub-Saharan Africa, particularly Comoros, is characterized by significant gender disparities in business practices and opportunities. This study integrates qualitative interviews and quantitative surveys to analyse gender roles in business ownership, leadership, and entrepreneurial activities across various sectors. Women entrepreneurs in Comoros face significant barriers to accessing finance and networks compared to their male counterparts (45% of female respondents reported difficulties obtaining loans). Gender inequalities persistently affect economic participation and opportunities in business settings within Comoros. Strategic interventions aiming at improving financial inclusion and networking support for women entrepreneurs are recommended by policy makers.
