Water Scarcity Mitigation Strategies in the Nile Basin: A Mixed Methods Analysis in South Africa

Abstract
This study examines water scarcity mitigation strategies in the Nile Basin within South Africa, focusing on potential conflicts arising from scarce resources. A mixed methods approach was employed, integrating interviews with stakeholders, surveys of affected communities, and an analysis of policy documents. Quantitative data were analysed using statistical software to identify patterns in resource usage and community responses. Interviews revealed a significant level of dissatisfaction among farmers regarding water allocation policies, with over 60% reporting inefficient distribution systems. The mixed methods approach has provided valuable insights into the complex interplay between policy implementation and community needs. Recommendations for improved resource management will be proposed. Policy recommendations include enhanced stakeholder engagement in decision-making processes and the development of more equitable water allocation strategies.
