Abstract

This study examines the roles and practices of African universities in Angola, focusing on their contributions to knowledge production and dissemination within the field of African Studies. Qualitative data were gathered through semi-structured interviews with university staff, focus group discussions with students and faculty members, and document analysis of institutional records and publications. Data collection spanned the academic year /. A notable finding was that while there are active research groups focusing on African studies, collaboration with local communities is underdeveloped, with only 30% of projects involving community partners. The study highlights the need for increased engagement between universities and local communities to enhance the impact and relevance of academic work in Angola. Recommendations include fostering more collaborative research projects that integrate local knowledge into university curricula, encouraging partnerships with non-governmental organizations (NGOs), and promoting community-based research initiatives.
