Abstract

Vocational training initiatives have emerged as a critical policy tool for addressing youth unemployment in South Africa, particularly in urban centers like Cape Town. Despite their widespread implementation, there is a dearth of comprehensive theoretical frameworks that elucidate how these programmes impact employment dynamics among young people. The theoretical development will draw from existing literature on labour market dynamics, education policies, and youth unemployment studies in African settings. A systematic review of relevant theories and empirical evidence will guide the construction of a comprehensive framework. This theoretical framework provides a structured lens for understanding the complexities involved in vocational training initiatives aimed at youth employment in Cape Town. It offers insights that can inform more effective policy interventions. Future research should focus on longitudinal studies to track programme impacts over extended periods, and comparative analyses across different regions within South Africa to identify regional-specific factors influencing outcomes.
