Abstract

Community health insurance programmes in Dakar, Senegal have become a focal point for addressing healthcare disparities among vulnerable populations. Data were collected from interviews with stakeholders and participants, as well as focus group discussions conducted over a period of five years in Dakar, Senegal. User feedback indicated that the majority (65%) found the programme beneficial for reducing out-of-pocket medical expenses, particularly among low-income households. The findings underscore the need for continuous engagement and community-centred interventions to enhance the sustainability of these programmes. Policy makers should prioritise community involvement in planning and implementation processes to ensure long-term success and uptake.
