Abstract

Renewable technologies such as solar panels have gained traction in reducing energy costs for businesses globally, particularly in emerging economies where traditional sources of energy may be less reliable or expensive. The study employs a combination of surveys, focus groups, and case studies to gather data from over 100 small business owners across different sectors in Uganda. Quantitative analysis will assess lighting cost reductions, while qualitative insights will explore factors influencing technology uptake. Solar-powered solutions have been adopted by 45% of surveyed businesses, with an average reported reduction in lighting costs of £30 per month for participating enterprises. Renewable energy technologies offer a viable solution to reduce lighting expenses for small businesses in Uganda. The qualitative data highlights the importance of government incentives and community support in promoting solar adoption. Government agencies should implement subsidies and public awareness campaigns to encourage wider use of renewable energy solutions among small business owners in Uganda.
