Abstract

Post-conflict contexts in Africa present unique challenges for businesses seeking to establish or expand operations. A mixed-methods approach was employed, combining qualitative interviews with quantitative surveys to gather data from business owners and managers in various sectors across Ethiopia. Businesses reported predominantly faced challenges related to infrastructure development (58%) and access to finance (42%), while opportunities included market expansion into neighboring countries (37%). While the post-conflict environment presents significant obstacles, there are viable avenues for business growth through targeted government support and regional integration. Government should prioritise infrastructure development and financial sector reforms to facilitate smoother economic recovery. Businesses could leverage partnerships with local suppliers and exporters in neighboring markets.
