Abstract

Online vocational skills training platforms have gained prominence as a means to bridge skill gaps in various regions of Africa. However, their effectiveness and implementation challenges remain underexplored. The evaluation utilised a mixed-methods approach combining pre- and post-training surveys with qualitative interviews. Data was analysed using descriptive statistics and thematic analysis. Senegalese participants showed an average improvement of 20% in their vocational skills, with significant increases noted in digital literacy skills compared to traditional training methods. The study highlights the potential of online platforms for skill development among youth. However, challenges such as limited internet access and cultural resistance were observed. Policy makers should prioritise infrastructure improvements and culturally tailored interventions to maximise the impact of online vocational training programmes. online training, Senegalese youth, digital literacy, vocational skills, Kenya
