Abstract

Sustainable fisheries management is crucial for maintaining biodiversity and ensuring food security in Tanzanian coastal communities. A mixed-methods approach was employed, including surveys with a structured questionnaire designed to gather quantitative data from 100 community members and qualitative interviews with 20 community leaders. Community adherence varied significantly, with 75% of respondents indicating moderate adherence to recommended practices. Key themes included resource scarcity and inadequate enforcement of regulations by authorities. Despite initial improvements in management strategies, ongoing challenges persist, necessitating a more robust implementation framework and community engagement mechanisms. Enhanced collaboration between government agencies and local communities is essential for successful sustainable fisheries management. Increased funding for monitoring and enforcement activities is recommended to address resource scarcity issues.
