Longitudinal Impact Evaluation of Community-Based Disaster Preparedness Programmes in Southern Sudan and Central African Republic, 2009

Abstract
This study examines the long-term effectiveness of community-based disaster preparedness programmes in Southern Sudan, with a comparative longitudinal analysis conducted in Central African Republic. Qualitative data were collected through interviews with community leaders, focus group discussions, and document review. Data analysis employed thematic coding techniques. Community participation was significantly higher (85%) in Southern Sudan compared to Central African Republic (60%), influencing programme sustainability and effectiveness. The study concludes that while both programmes have shown promise, the level of community engagement is crucial for their success. Recommendations focus on enhancing community capacity building. Enhancing community awareness and empowerment strategies should be prioritised to ensure sustainable disaster preparedness efforts.
