Abstract

Participatory forestry practices have been employed in Ugandan forests to mitigate soil erosion and improve crop yields among indigenous communities. A comprehensive search strategy was employed, including electronic databases such as PubMed, Web of Science, and Scopus. Studies published within the review window.were selected based on predefined inclusion criteria related to indigenous communities' participation in forestry activities. Participatory forestry practices demonstrated a significant reduction in soil erosion rates by 35% across the sampled regions compared to non-participatory areas, with an average increase of 10% in crop yields among indigenous farmers. The review underscores the efficacy of participatory approaches in fostering sustainable land management and agricultural productivity improvements for Ugandan indigenous communities. Policy makers should encourage continued investment in participatory forestry programmes to support long-term environmental sustainability and economic development.
