Technological Innovations in Rural Agricultural Marketing Systems: Farmer Cooperatives and Value Chain Development in Rwanda
Abstract
Rural agricultural marketing systems in Rwanda have faced challenges such as low productivity, limited access to markets and finance, and poor quality control. The research employed a mixed-method approach combining surveys with case studies of selected cooperatives in Rwanda. Agricultural cooperatives have adopted digital platforms for market information dissemination, increasing farmer access to markets by 40%. The use of precision farming tools has led to an average yield increase of 25% among participating farmers. Technological innovations significantly improved efficiency and productivity in rural agricultural marketing systems through enhanced market connectivity and better resource utilization. Government support for digital infrastructure and training programmes is recommended to further integrate cooperatives into modern value chains.
