Abstract

Urban agriculture innovation hubs (UAHs) have emerged as significant drivers of economic growth in Egyptian megacities, offering a multifaceted approach to food security and environmental sustainability. This study employs quantitative analysis using data from a survey conducted among farmers participating in UAHs across Cairo, Alexandria, and Port Said. Vegetable production within UAHs demonstrated an average efficiency rate of 25% higher than traditional farming methods, with significant variation between cities and specific technologies adopted. The findings suggest that a combination of advanced irrigation systems and community-based management strategies significantly enhance vegetable yields and market access for farmers. Government policies should incentivize the development of more UAHs by providing subsidies for modern agricultural equipment and training programmes for farmers.
