Abstract

Maternal care facilities in South Africa play a critical role in improving maternal health outcomes. However, there is a need for rigorous evaluation of these systems to assess their impact on clinical outcomes. The methodology involves employing difference-in-differences models to analyse pre- and post-intervention data from various maternal care facilities. Uncertainty is addressed through robust standard errors, ensuring the reliability of our findings. An examination of specific facilities revealed a significant improvement in neonatal mortality rates by 20% post-intervention, although this trend varied across different regions. The difference-in-differences models provided evidence for the effectiveness of maternal care interventions. Future research should consider regional variations and potential confounding factors. Policy makers are encouraged to implement targeted strategies based on the findings, particularly in areas with lower improvement rates. maternal health, maternal care facilities, South Africa, difference-in-differences, clinical outcomes Treatment effect was estimated with $\text{logit}(p_i)=\beta_0+\beta^\top X_i$, and uncertainty reported using confidence-interval based inference.
