Abstract

Urban Dakar District in Senegal is an ideal setting to study the adoption of enhanced mobile health services for maternal and newborn care due to its high population density and existing infrastructure. A mixed-methods approach combining quantitative surveys with qualitative interviews was employed to gather data from urban residents in Dakar District. Mobile health services were adopted by 72% of surveyed households, significantly higher among low-income groups who lacked alternative healthcare options. Enhanced mobile health services show promise for improving maternal and newborn care in urban settings, particularly addressing gaps in service reach. Increase funding to support mobile health initiatives specifically targeting underserved communities. Implement community education programmes to enhance awareness of available services.
