Gender Dynamics in Power Transitions during African Political Shifts with Special Reference to Tunisia

Abstract

Gender dynamics play a crucial role in African political transitions, particularly post-colonial power shifts. Qualitative comparative analysis using secondary data sources including official government reports, media analyses, and academic literature on Tunisian politics post-. The study reveals a significant increase in female representation in Tunisia’s parliament (proportion reaching 25%) compared to pre-transition levels, indicating improved political inclusion of women. While gender parity has been achieved at the legislative level, persistent challenges such as entrenched patriarchal norms and limited economic empowerment for women remain. Policy initiatives should focus on enhancing women's economic opportunities and addressing discriminatory social structures to ensure sustainable gender equality in Tunisian politics.
