Abstract

Water scarcity is a persistent challenge in Tanzania's Nile Basin, leading to conflicts over limited water resources. The Nile River plays a crucial role in sustaining livelihoods and agricultural productivity across the region. An action research methodology was employed, involving participatory workshops with local communities, focus group discussions, and semi-structured interviews to gather qualitative data on water usage patterns and conflict dynamics. Community members reported a significant decline in agricultural yields due to erratic rainfall patterns, leading to increased competition for available water resources. Stakeholders identified the need for improved irrigation systems and better coordination among farmers. The findings underscore the importance of collaborative efforts between local communities and government agencies to address water scarcity conflicts effectively. Recommendations include the implementation of community-based water management initiatives, promotion of sustainable agricultural practices, and fostering greater stakeholder engagement in decision-making processes related to water resources.
