The Political Economy of Natural Resource Extraction in Central Africa: An Egyptian Perspective
Abstract
This study examines the political economy of natural resource extraction in Central Africa through an Egyptian lens, contributing to the interdisciplinary field of African Studies. Qualitative research methods were employed, including interviews with policymakers, academic experts, and community leaders from Central African nations, supplemented by document analysis of relevant policy documents and media reports. Findings indicate a significant proportion (30%) of Egyptian investment in natural resource extraction projects is directed towards supporting local infrastructure development, fostering economic growth. The study concludes that Egypt's engagement in Central African resource extraction has both positive and negative impacts on the region's socio-economic stability. Policy recommendations are provided for sustainable resource management. Recommendations include enhancing transparency in resource allocation decisions, strengthening community participation in development projects, and improving environmental regulations to mitigate adverse effects.
