Abstract

African universities play a pivotal role in knowledge production and dissemination within their regions, particularly in fields such as African Studies. No empirical data is included; instead, a comprehensive review of existing literature and theoretical frameworks is employed to develop an understanding of university roles. This framework provides a conceptual foundation for policymakers, educators, and researchers aiming to strengthen academic hubs in Tanzania and beyond. Policymakers should prioritise investment in infrastructure, training programmes, and support systems that facilitate the creation of robust knowledge production ecosystems within universities.
