Development and Impact of Community-Based Climate Resilience Training in Coastal Ghana Communities
Abstract
Climate change poses significant challenges to coastal communities in Ghana, particularly affecting agriculture, water resources, and livelihoods. The study employed qualitative research methods including semi-structured interviews and focus group discussions to explore perceptions, practices, and impacts of climate resilience training. Participants reported a significant improvement (80%) in their knowledge about climate change risks and mitigation strategies post-training. Themes identified included adaptive coping mechanisms and community-led initiatives. Community-based climate resilience training has been effective in building local adaptive capacities, with substantial improvements noted in participants' understanding of climate-related challenges and solutions. Continued support for capacity-building programmes should be prioritised to sustain the positive impacts observed. Engaging a wider range of stakeholders is recommended to ensure comprehensive coverage of affected communities.
