Abstract
Morocco's urban governance faces significant challenges that are often traced back to historical socio-economic conditions. An ethnographic study employing participant observation, interviews, and archival research to explore the interplay between past and present urban management challenges. Themes such as land tenure systems and colonial administrative practices continue to shape current governance dilemmas in Moroccan cities, with a notable proportion of historical disputes persisting in modern legal conflicts. The study underscores the importance of understanding historical context for addressing contemporary governance gaps effectively. Policy recommendations should address both past and present governance structures, integrating traditional practices into current urban planning frameworks.
