Analysing Employment Opportunities and Skills Transfer Programmes in Coastal Ghana: A Methodological Framework for Rural to Urban Migration Studies

Abstract
The study examines rural to urban migration patterns in coastal Ghana, focusing on employment opportunities and the effectiveness of skills transfer programmes. A mixed-methods approach combining quantitative data analysis on migrant demographics, job market trends, and qualitative interviews with stakeholders in the skills transfer sector will be employed. Analysis of migration patterns indicates a significant movement towards urban areas, particularly in sectors like manufacturing and information technology. Interviews reveal that while programmes aim to equip migrants with digital literacy skills, there is room for improvement in ensuring these skills are relevant and timely. The study provides insights into the challenges faced by rural-to-urban migrants and offers recommendations for enhancing skill transfer programmes to better support this demographic. Stakeholders should prioritise tailoring skills training courses to current market demands and provide ongoing support to ensure migrant workers remain employable in their chosen fields. Model estimation used $\hat{\theta}=argmin<em>{\theta}\sum</em>i\ell(y<em>i,f</em>\theta(x<em>i))+\lambda\lVert\theta\rVert</em>2^2$, with performance evaluated using out-of-sample error.
