ICT-Based Mental Health Support Services for Youth with Chronic Illnesses in Nigeria: Engagement Levels and Satisfaction
Abstract
Mental health issues are prevalent among youth living with chronic illnesses in Nigeria, yet traditional support services often fall short of their needs. A mixed-methods approach was employed, including a survey targeting participants (N=150) and qualitative interviews (n=20). Data were analysed using descriptive statistics and thematic analysis. Findings indicate that engagement levels are moderately high with service satisfaction scores averaging at 78% among the surveyed youth. Themes identified include barriers to access, perceived effectiveness of services, and suggestions for improvement. ICT-based mental health support services show promise in engaging youths with chronic conditions but require targeted interventions to enhance overall satisfaction and accessibility. Future research should focus on developing tailored educational programmes and expanding service availability through community partnerships.
