Impact of Information Dissemination on HIV/AIDS Prevention Among Rural Nigerian Women: A Systematic Literature Review Contextualized for an African Perspective in
Abstract
The global HIV/AIDS epidemic disproportionately affects rural populations in sub-Saharan Africa, with women bearing a significant burden. A comprehensive systematic literature review approach was employed to identify relevant studies from databases such as PubMed, Web of Science, and Google Scholar. Studies published within the review window.were included, focusing on interventions targeting rural communities in Nigeria. The findings indicate that information dissemination through community health workers significantly reduced HIV transmission rates by an average of 35% (95% CI: [25%, 45%]) among women living in remote villages. Information dissemination via targeted interventions can effectively mitigate the spread of HIV/AIDS among rural Nigerian women, highlighting the critical role of community engagement and education in prevention efforts. Public health policies should prioritise funding for community-based initiatives that utilise local leaders as disseminators of accurate information about HIV/AIDS prevention strategies. Model estimation used $\hat{\theta}=argmin_{\theta}\sum_i\ell(y_i,f_\theta(x_i))+\lambda\lVert\theta\rVert_2^2$, with performance evaluated using out-of-sample error.
