Abstract

Youth in Senegal are increasingly involved in agribusiness and food systems as a means of income generation and livelihood diversification. A mixed-methods approach combining qualitative interviews (n=50) and quantitative surveys (n=200) was employed to gather data from young agribusiness owners in Senegal. Youth entrepreneurs reported a significant increase of $1,200 per hectare compared to their peers not involved in agribusiness, highlighting the economic potential of youth engagement. This study underscores the importance of fostering supportive policies and resource access for young farmers in Senegal's agricultural sector. Policy makers should prioritise initiatives aimed at enhancing access to credit and technology for youth entrepreneurs in agriculture.
