Integrating Livestock and Cropping Systems for Sustainable Farming in Uganda

Abstract

Uganda faces challenges in achieving sustainable farming practices due to a reliance on traditional livestock and cropping systems. A comprehensive scoping review methodology was employed, including searches in academic databases such as PubMed and Google Scholar. Keywords included 'livestock', 'cropping systems', 'sustainability', and 'Uganda'. Integration of livestock with crop production showed a positive direction in increasing yields by up to 20% and reducing soil degradation. Integrating livestock into cropping systems can significantly enhance agricultural sustainability in Uganda, particularly through synergistic nutrient cycling and pest management. Farmers should be encouraged to adopt mixed farming practices that balance crop cultivation with the integration of livestock for long-term productivity gains. The empirical specification follows $Y=\beta_0+\beta^\top X+\varepsilon$, and inference is reported with uncertainty-aware statistical criteria.
