Abstract

Environmental education (EE) is a critical component in fostering sustainable behaviors among Tanzanian communities, aiming to mitigate environmental degradation and promote ecological resilience. A mixed-methods approach was employed, including pre- and post-intervention surveys with a sample size of 150 participants from diverse geographical regions in Tanzania. Quantitative data were analysed using chi-squared tests to assess changes in behaviour patterns. The analysis revealed that participation in EE programmes significantly increased the proportion of respondents who practiced sustainable behaviors, such as recycling and reducing water usage, by a factor of 1.5 compared to non-participants (p < 0.05). Environmental education plays a pivotal role in encouraging sustainable living practices among Tanzanian communities. Enhanced EE programmes should focus on integrating practical skills and community-based initiatives to achieve greater behavioural change. The empirical specification follows $Y=\beta_0+\beta^\top X+\varepsilon$, and inference is reported with uncertainty-aware statistical criteria.
