Abstract

Urban Heat Island (UHI) effects are significant in Accra’s secondary schools due to their dense urban environments and limited green spaces. A literature review approach was employed to identify and analyse published studies and reports related to UHI mitigation strategies for secondary school teachers in Accra. The reviewed strategies include the use of reflective surfaces (e.g., white paint) with a $R^2 = 0.75$ on their effectiveness, highlighting the importance of data-driven approaches. This review underscores the need for targeted UHI mitigation interventions in Accra’s secondary schools and emphasizes the role of teacher education in implementing these strategies effectively. Schools should integrate reflective surfaces and provide training to teachers on sustainable urban planning practices.
